One of My Favorite Quotes...

“The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.”

Origami Business Card Cube and Box

Here’s another fun and interesting way to utilize your extra business cards. I have a ton of them and I’m sure I’m not the only one that has many stashed away for some reason or another. The Origami Business Card Cube is no secret, but I’m sure there are others that haven’t seen it done yet. So, this is a great way to impress others with your origami skills.

How To: Origami Business Card Jumping Frog Version 01

There are many ways to go about creating an Origami Business Card Jumping Frog. Most of these variations come from the same basic folds as well. This version that I’m about to show is the one I grew up with. I’ve started off with this design and figure it should be the first of many to be shared on this Blog.

How To. Origami Business Card Frog 01

It all starts with your standard business card. All it takes is one card. I happen to have a lot lying around and really need to find a way to get rid of them. I needed to create new cards anyways. Standard paper will work, but it won’t jump as well as one that is cardstock.

How To. Origami Business Card Frog 01

Follow the fold markings (red dash marks) on the photo, by folding the top right corner of the business card diagonally down the opposite side. Unfold it and this time fold the top left corner to the opposite side. Unfold it again and now you should see that you’ve created two crease marks making an “X”. Fold the card backwards right through the middle of the “X”. Push in the middle where all the folds meet with your finger and they should all pop in towards the center. It should now look like a small house.

How To. Origami Business Card Frog 01

The photo below demonstrates the process given above.

Next, we’re going to create the arms of the frog by folding the loose corners in towards the top corner. The photo below shows where you fold the corners where the dash marks lay.

How To. Origami Business Card Frog 01

It should now look like the image below. The photo below also shows the next step by displaying the fold marks. This is what I would consider as the hands part of the frog.

This is how it should look for the time being. We’re basically half way through the whole process. Pretty easy so far, huh?!?

How To. Origami Business Card Frog 01

Now we’re going to start to shape the body of the frog. This is somewhat of an athletic/aerodynamic frog. Other variations tend to have a more square-ish type body. But not mine! It’s got to be cool. Continue to follow the fold marks shown below. The body should look almost like a triangle or some would say like an arrowhead.

How To. Origami Business Card Frog 01

As you can see below, the frog is starting to take shape. It indeed does look similar to an arrowhead too. What’s next is the forming of the legs. The part that helps launches it into the air. Remember, this origami frog does work, jump. Basically fold the body in half and then fold the bottom half in half again. Just like the photos I provided below.

Now, you have just completed the Origami Business Card Jumping Frog! Pretty cool, huh! To make it jump, flick down near the frog’s butt. That’s all to it!

Now go ahead and start a frog jumping contest with all your office buddies and waste valuable company resources…haha

Origami Business Card Jumping Frogs

I used to make a ton of these Origami Jumping Frogs when I was a kid. It was a bit different than the ones shown, but the basic folds are still the same. Now that I’m older and have a ton of left over business cards, this is a perfect way to put them to use or impress people with your origami skills. It also gives me a reason to design new business cards, not that I needed one. And yes, these do jump!

Signed up for Twitter!

I just signed up for an account with Twitter and I’m still not sure what I think of it at the moment. I guess I just wanted to know how it feels to be one of the cool guys. Well, not exactly, but I’ll stick with that answer for now.

I added the Twitter Badge as well. So now you know what I’m doing with every minute and second of my boring life on this Blog. Well, not everything. A guy has to have his secrets too. We’ll see how often I’ll be using this feature. I already have a tough time blogging about anything. But, at least I can do something with my leftover text messages that came with my phone plan.

Now, if you really want to follow me on Twitter, click here. I know you want to stalk me!?! I’m that important and good looking too...

POTD: Lemon Tart @ It’s a Grind

Just something I had to share for my Photo of The Day post. A couple of days ago, I visited It’s a Grind coffee shop in downtown San Diego and had a nice cold drink and a lemon tart. A great way to cool down and a great location to people watch. We almost saw a guy on a bike get hit. Actually, he did get hit, but not enough to get thrown off the bike. It’s a very busy intersection to say the least…

POTD: Tuna Harbor in San Diego

My Photo of The Day is, Tuna Harbor in San Diego. Even though these photos of the Tuna Harbor right off the San Diego Bay in downtown was taken last year, it’s a great representation of how it is now. The weather is great for walking around, but it is even better for those who want take photos. Man, I wish I was out there taking photos.

My Favorite Design and Photography Resources

I have created a collection of links that I use as a resource for design and photography. Not just resources also, but for inspiration and a great way to cross-promote and build relationships. I, like most designers, go through times when inspiration is needed. It’s no fun trying to create a design for a client and going through what people call “Creative Block”. Hopefully sites I frequent and keep for myself help motivate those out of the “Block”.

Blogging Resources

It’s my way of giving back. There’s a saying, “Knowledge is good only if it is shared”. I don’t have that knowledge, but I have learned from those willing to share. Blogging in general can be overwhelming for just about anyone starting to blog. So I have created a collection of links of blogging related resources on the internet I’ve used to help improve my blog.

Note: This page/post will be updated regularly as this blog grows.
