One of My Favorite Quotes...

“The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.”

Logo in LogoLounge Master Library Vol 1

Sometime last year, I was notified that one of my logos I've done in the past for a client, Valerent, has made the cut to be printed with so many other great/talented international logo designers. The book is called "LogoLounge Master Library Volume 1, 3000 Initial & Crest Logos"...

Valerent logo design in LogoLounge Master Library book

I did the logo design for Valerent. In fewer words than what was discussed, we wanted simple, clean and bold the main keys to tackling the project at hand. And it looks like we accomplished that as well as being recognized for it...

It's a great book to add to the collection with other design books/resources. And not because my work is in it... but it sure does help and makes me feel better.

You might want to check out the other LogoLounge books available at your book store for other great logo designs and designers. You'll find some of my other work in it also, but that's another plug for another day...

BlackBerry 9700 Seidio Innocase 2

I got my hands on the Seidio Innocase 2 and Holster for my BlackBerry 9700 Bold 2 about a week ago. I wanted more protection for the phone and none of the classic leather cases impressed me enough to purchase one. Decided to go with a well known and proven skin…

BlackBerry 9700 Bold 2 Seidio Innocase 2 and Holster

BlackBerry 9700 Bold 2 Seidio Innocase 2 and Holster

I got my case and holster from CrackBerry’s online store. Here’s some info taken off their site about the product…

“The Seidio Innocase II Surface is crafted from a hard yet flexible material and it provides an amazingly thin layer of protection for your BlackBerry Bold 9700 without adding the excessive bulk of other cases.

The Innocase II consists of interlocking top and bottom pieces that fit your phone snugly, and Seidio's signature soft touch finish provides a great feel and better grip without attracting lint.”

What I like about this case is how easy it was to install it and remove if and when you wanted to. But, it’s no so easy that you’d have to worry about it, because it has a snug and solid fit. It feels very secure in the hands and I’m sure it’ll protect it enough as long as I do my part and not make a serious mistake... more photos here.

The quality of Seidio Innocase 2 is second to none. It’s that good and I’m pressed. I also love that silky finish on the product.

Since I bought the whole package (case and holster) you know I had to also take a couple flicks to show everyone what the product looks like. It’s the designer/photographer in me. Here’s the product info for the Seidio Innocase Lock Holster for the BlackBerry Bold 9700…

“Seidio has an industry first! A Spring Lock Innocase Holster that holds your device securely and will help eliminate accidental dropping.

The unique spring clip features a lock on it that moves up and down to "lock" your Smartphone into the holster. This holster is also user-friendly, allowing you to remove your BlackBerry Bold 9700 from the top instead of the bottom, making the movement much more natural. Your phone is carried facing inward against a soft, velvet foam pad, safe-guarding the screen from possible scratches and other mishaps”

My initial impression of the holster is just OK. And after giving it some time, it’s still just OK. I feel the quality of the holster isn’t on par with the Innocase 2. Just a regular holster that I wish they put more thought into it like the Innocase 2. One of the reviews I’ve read on the holster states, “the locking mechanism leaves alot to be desired”. I agree, it could have been designed better and for the most part, don’t use the locking part because of that… more photos here.

All in all, I really love the Seidio Innocase 2 and the holster, just Ok. The holster does what it’s supposed to, but just not as nice looking. And I’m OK with that. Would I buy this all over again? Yes. That is until I can find that perfect leather case that I’m still pursuing.

There are more detailed photos of the products here from LapadaGallery.com. I try to take as many photos as I can to show what the items look like that aren’t found on online store descriptions…

Macadamia Chocolate Nuts and Nuts

I love chocolate! And these chocolate covered macadamia nuts from Hawaii have to be up there on my list of favorite chocolates. I’ve been eating these since I was a kid. Some great memories… around Christmas time (2009), the family received a package from Hawaii. A couple boxes of these Hawaiian Host chocolate covered macadamia nuts and a couple cans of Mauna Loa macadamia nuts…

Macadamia Chocolate Nuts and Nuts From Hawaii

Like all things sweet and chocolate, the boxed candy suddenly became opened and attacked. It’s not a pretty site with us drooling over the package out of hunger like drug addicts. And it wasn’t by me since I was too busy trying to take a couple flicks for future blog material here on Communicating Ideas by Visualnewbie. During this whole madness, I decided the camera had to be set down so I can go claim a few before there weren’t any left. And in no time, the first box is an empty one and others were eager to open the next…

Maybe not as sweet, but just as delicious are these Mauna Loa macadamia nuts in different flavors. Honey Roasted Macadamias, Kona Coffee Glazed Macadamias and Maui Onion & Garlic Macadamias. I love the package design on the cans and love the Kona Coffee Glazed Macadamias even more. That my personal favorite of the three flavors…

Macadamia Chocolate Nuts and Nuts From Hawaii

All these snacks from Hawaii didn’t last long at all. And that’s a good sign that shows just how good and delicious it was by our actions. You know, actions speak louder than words. Our actions weren’t pretty, but they sure did show how much we loved them…

Hans & Harry’s Fresh Fruit Strudels

Started organizing and archiving last years photos and came across a holiday dessert favorite of mine. It’s Hans & Harry’s Fresh Fruit Strudels from the small community of Bonita in the South County of San Diego. Heck, it’s just not only a holiday favorite, but an everyday one…

Hans & Harry’s Fresh Fruit Strudels

The strudel was given to us during Christmas from a relative and had to get a slice since sweets tend to be a weakness for me. So GOOD! It’s the perfect light dessert for the occasion, with its raspberry spread, Bavarian cream and assorted fresh fruit. And it’s not too sweet too. So, I just wanted to take the opportunity to share a flick with everyone else and make you hungry…

Blackberry 9700 Leather Pocket Pouch

I was pretty impressed with the accessories that were included with the Blackberry 9700. And that’s including the black leather case that they included with the whole package. But, it’s a top loading case and I typically use side loading leather cases. And here’s another but. But, all the other side loading belt cases suck in my opinion. So it’s my quest to find other options…

Blackberry 9700 Leather Pocket Pouch

Blackberry 9700 Leather Pocket Pouch

I came across the Blackberry 9700 Leather Pocket Pouch at a local store here in San Diego. I also bought this about a week after I purchased the Blackberry 9700 since I needed something not as bulky as the one that came with the unit and something more pocketable and inexpensive… more photos here.

Blackberry 9700 Leather Pocket Pouch

Blackberry 9700 Leather Pocket Pouch

Blackberry 9700 Leather Pocket Pouch

Since it was inexpensive, I took the chance to give it the whole college try. The Pocket Pouch is pretty good quality and the stitching was pretty spot on. As you can see in the photos, the front of the pouch sports an aluminum rounded square Blackberry emblem and the bottom back sports the Blackberry logo embedded into the leather.

The first time I inserted the Blackberry 9700 in the Leather Pocket Pouch, it was a tight fit. A really, I mean really tight fit. I was afraid to push it all the way in, in fear that it would be stuck. But what the heck, I did it anyways and sure enough; I had trouble getting it back out. When having it pushed all the way in, I really didn’t have enough grabbing surface on the phone to pull it out. Eventually it came out and worked it enough that now it’s just loose enough… more photos here.

Blackberry 9700 Leather Pocket Pouch

Blackberry 9700 Leather Pocket Pouch

Something really bothered me about this case even though the quality was great. It was the fact that it stuck out so much on the top. I wanted a case that protects the whole phone and this does not. It only protects 80% of the bottom phone and not the top of it.

So, the search continues for the perfect case for my needs. At least I got some great flicks to share to other Blackberry users and maybe help others with their decisions if they were on the fence. But it sure does look like I may be heading towards skins though. But, that’ll be a review for another day…

Photos of the Blackberry 9700 Bold 2

The Blackberry 9700 Bold 2 for AT&T has been released about a bit less than 2 months now and in my hands, about less than a month. So far, this has to be the best phone I’ve ever had. And I’ve been known to go through phones quite a bit. But I’ve been behaving and haven’t gone crazy like I used to. Maybe because other hobbies have been taking over…

Blackberry 9700 Bold 2

Blackberry 9700 Bold 2

Some people might ask, “why not an iPhone?”. Well, one of my requirements for any phone is a physical QWERTY keyboard. Since I’ve had the HTC Tilt before this, I also wanted to go away with touch screens and sliding keyboards. Way too many accidental calls, even when locked, and just plain tired of the sliding keyboard. But, don’t get me wrong, I may eventually go back to the sliding keys in the future since it’s not a deal breaker for me like touch screen only phone… more photos here.

Blackberry 9700 Bold 2

Blackberry 9700 Bold 2

Since I deal with emails a lot when in contact with clients and rely heavily on emails, it just felt right to go with a brand that is known for dealing with these issues and more. So, it had to be reliable, durable, efficient, fast, and a more importantly, a great phone first with a good speakerphone… more photos here.

Blackberry 9700 Bold 2

Blackberry 9700 Bold 2

I was pretty impressed with what the Blackberry 9700 Bold 2 came with in its package. It came with a decent top loading leather case/holster, with the belt clip being able to be adjusted. It also came with a headset for playing music from Pandora and the like or speaking to someone on the phone if you don’t have a Bluetooth ear piece. That’s some extra goodies I wasn’t expecting. It also came with a SanDisk 2GB Micro SD card. Nice to have but, I have a 6GB Micro card laying around and used that instead.

Since I’ve had it for only a few weeks and I’m still playing with it as well as learning something new from it all the time. But so far so good and I mean really good. I couldn’t be happier with my upgrade/purchase. I recommend it to anyone…

2010 San Diego International Auto Show

It’s been awhile since I’ve gone to the San Diego International Auto Show or any car show in fact. I would say, a few years back. I used to make this a tradition of some sort to begin the New Year and check out some cool rides to add to my dream list when I win the lotto. Since it’s been awhile, we decided to go that Saturday to kill some time and make the start of this New Year more productive and importantly more fun…

San Diego International Auto Show 2010

San Diego International Auto Show 2010

As usual, we started from one end and work or way towards the other. As luck would have it, the end we started on had the more exotic cars on display. Cars that most of us can only dream of or see while driving through more prominent communities like La Jolla, Rancho Santa Fe, Beverly Hills, etc. But not me, I hope to have one some time and will continue to grind to make it happen… more photos here.

San Diego International Auto Show 2010

One of the best things about attending the San Diego International Auto Show is the ability to view cars that you’re interested in without the annoying car salesmen/women. Even ones that you’re not interested in or out of your price range. But these exotics were roped off to the public. And I can say for good measure as you will see that people in general aren’t really careful with the cars they check out… more photos here.

There’s one car that really caught my attention. And that car is the Camaro! I probably took more flicks of this model than anything else. And I’m not exactly a Camaro fan! I never really liked it in the past and now (stock form), but when seeing the potential of the vehicle that others have done to it, I’m really digging it. And that’s more so than fixed up Mustangs… I still wouldn’t but one, but boy are they a head turner. More photos here.

San Diego International Auto Show 2010

The last time I’ve been to the San Diego International Auto Show, they mainly showed new cars and exotics. This show had a bit of everything. It’s a welcome change and really brought back memories of going to Lowrider and Import car shows in the 90’s that I always went to when I was younger. Makes me want to go check some out now to see what the new generations of car enthusiasts are doing.

Some of my favorite cars that I saw at the show were the Aston Martins and the satin grey finished paint job of the BMW E92 M3. Love that paint job and would love to do that to my BMW some day. I just don’t want to deal with the maintenance of it… more photos here.

San Diego International Auto Show 2010

All in all, I had a ton of fun. We watched the Jeep exhibit and it doing its thing on the sample trail. Amazing what it can do. It’s sad to see that it’s only the workers driving it and not the customers. Somebody must have screwed up for them sometime ago not to hand over the key to test out. Killed a couple of hours and fortunately it wasn’t that busy when we got there. As we were finishing up, it was starting to pick up.

It’s also sad to see that not all car manufactures showed up. And a couple of the major car manufactures being Mercedes and Porsche. I really wanted to check out the new models that they had coming out since I was interested in buying one. Oh well, maybe they’ll show up next year…

These are just a sample of flicks that I took on the fly. I didn’t plan on taking that much photos and just wanted to enjoy the moment. Only took photos of things that caught my eye and what others wanted me to take. Other images are available on my other site on LapadaGallery.com and the direct link to the photos of the 2010 San Diego International Auto Show right here.
Thanks and enjoy…

Acer Aspire Easystore H340 Home Server

I’ve had the Acer Aspire Easystore H340 for some time now. I would say about 3-4 months with good use. I’m using this home server to store anything from client design projects, photos, music, movies, computer system backup, etc…

Acer Aspire Easystore H340 and Extra Hard Drives

The Acer Aspire Easystore H340 unit is roughly a quarter of a normal desktop tower in size. The front face of the unit is plastic that’s glossy black and protected with a removable plastic film in the package. That’s to protect it from scratches while packaged. The top and sides of the case is aluminum finished in matte black. The rear of the case is unpainted aluminum… more detailed photos of the Acer Aspire Easystore H340 can be found here.

Acer Aspire Easystore H340 and Extra Hard Drives

check out more detailed pictures of the unit on LapadaGallery.com.

Acer Aspire Easystore H340 and Extra Hard Drives

Acer Aspire Easystore H340 and Extra Hard Drives

I’m not going to bore you with other product descriptions because there’s tons of info on them when doing a Google search. But I will tell you, is that it originally came with a 1TB hard drive with the necessary software to get it running and with three more bays for extra hard drives. And that 1TB of space didn’t last me long at all…

As soon as I got the Home Server up and running I ended up getting a Western Digital 2TB Caviar Green SATA hard drive within a week or two. Backing up everything to the home server takes up a lot of space and I really didn’t realize how much files I have stored away of past and present client projects and photos. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a photo of the WD package. As I couldn’t wait to open it up and start using it…

Acer Aspire Easystore H340 and Extra Hard Drives

Again, as soon as I got and installed the Western Digital 2TB Caviar Green HD, I needed a new hard drive because I was running out of space and fast. This time, I decided to get the Seagate Barracuda 2TB SATA. What made me go with this product? No reason, other than cost. The Western Digital HD cost more and I really wanted to get something different this time around.

Acer Aspire Easystore H340 and Extra Hard Drives

Acer Aspire Easystore H340 and Extra Hard Drives

The images provided above show the Seagate Barracuda HD seated in one of the Acer Aspire Easystore hard drive trays. This tray happens to take up bay number three. I love the design of the trays as they don’t need any tools to get them in or out. Pop them (Seagate) in the tray and insert the tray with hard drive into the assigned bay and lock it into place. That’s it. Very user friendly and safe for beginners… having the Home Server to recognize the extra HD and add, was as easy as a couple clicks of the mouse…

The crazy part is I started to run out of space again. I’ve only had this Home Server for 3-4 months and it’s getting full like no other. Like the other drives, I ended getting a different brand hard drive. I bought the Hitachi 2TB Deskstar SATA hard drive. And that was a few weeks ago. The cost was also even lower than the Seagate. But, I got to admit, this drive is pretty noisy. If you like your drives quiet, this is not for you and go with the other brands I mentioned.

Acer Aspire Easystore H340 and Extra Hard Drives

Now that I have a total of 7TB in the Acer Aspire Easystore H340 Home Server and no extra bays left, I still have some time to completely fill it up with important files and not so important files. But that time looks to be coming up soon. I have about 1.2TB left in the Home Server at the time of this post and shrinking. I will soon have to look into other options like the Sans Digital TowerRAID 4 or 8 bay SATA storage enclosures to expand the storage capacity of my Home Server.

The Acer Aspire unit has performed better than expected. At the beginning, there were a few glitches. After a few updates and a reinstall of the software, it has been pretty much flawless. I believe I made the right choice, actually, scratch that. I know I made the right choice. And recommend it to anyone looking for their own Home Server.

…check out more detailed pictures of the unit on LapadaGallery.com because sometimes merchant photos aren’t enough in my opinion and you can never have too much.
