One of My Favorite Quotes...

“The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.”

Dinner: Eastlake Tavern in Chula Vista

A couple nights ago, we wanted to go find a pretty chill spot to hangout, eat, drink and watch the San Diego Padres kick butt all in one location. We found and know a place that fits all the criteria, except that the Padres lost due to a grand slam by the Rockies. DAMN THEM!!! Anyways, the location we decided to go to is the Eastlake Tavern and Bowl in Chula Vista.

Eastlake Tavern's Fat Tire

I've been to the Eastlake Tavern a few times and all during fight nights or during a big game. Basically Saturdays. This time it's a Friday and its not as busy as we had hoped. But then again, no big sporting event was going down. I was hoping it to be one of those crazy busy days where there would be tons of people. This day was not, but pretty chill nonetheless. So it was time to wet our whistle as we watched the game and put in or order for some grub. The drink to get us started, a pitcher of Fat Tire...

Here's a photo of the cover of the menu. The menu is not as extensive as most restaurants, but better than most bars. Which, I would put this place more or less as. I really wish places would put photos of their food on their menus. I usually pick my entree based on the photos alone about 90 percent of the time. They didn't have any...

I'm the type that usually gets chicken nachos as an appetizer when I go out to these type of places. But I remembered eating theirs and it didn't impress me. So, we passed on them and went straight to the main courses. Besides, I wasn't really hungry and it would of been a waste...

I got the one of the "Big League Burgers" called The Kingpin. The Kingpin is a half pound 100 percent angus beef with portobello, swiss, and garlic aioli. It comes with fries, but I substituted it for sweet potato fries. The burger itself was average. Not bad, but not great either. The sweet potato fries were also average. But and this is a big but. They have on the side is a small container of caramel sauce for the fries. I've never had them like that before and I loved it. That made all the difference for me. But then again, I love sweets...

My buddy got the Tavern Original Philly Cheesesteak. It also came with fries and substituted it for sweet potato fries. He also agreed that the caramel sauce made the fries taste awesome! He never had it like that too and it sure was a welcome surprise. He basically cleaned up his whole plate, but that's not unusual for him in our circle of friends...

The prices aren't cheap and not really expensive. But the beer was pretty pricy in my opinion. In the end, I'll definitely come back as there's lots to do. Like bowl or shoot some pool. I myself rather sit back and watch some fights with a beer in my hand and food in the other. I can't help it, I love food as long as it's decent. Especially those sweet potato fries! They also don't have a cover charge during those big fights, which is a big plus if you ask me.

So, go ahead and check the Eastlake Tavern and Bowl out...
