One of My Favorite Quotes...

“The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.”

Surefire E2E with KL1 LED Conversion

The Surefire E2E with the KL1 LED Conversion Head is probably my favorite light out of my whole flashlight collection. The compactness and output together make an awesome flashlight that's hard to beat. Plus it just looks cool. It was originally just an ordinary spare Surefire Executive Elite lying around but that had to change. I wanted an E2E that uses LED technology. And that brings me to Surefire's KL1 LED head unit. I bought this a few years ago and it seems that it has been replaced by newer models. But here are some pictures of it...

Since mine was pieced together instead of being bought as a whole. The equivalent model would be similar to Surefire's E2L LED Outdoorsman. Difference is that it isn't a two-stage light nor does it have a clickie for a switch. Mine is just a twist. This is a great general purpose light and a light that I keep in the backpack most of the time. Like any geeks out there, I tend to rotate the lights I have in the collection to make sure they all get used. But when doing road trips and such, this is the first to be put in the bag. Again, the compactness of the flashlight is what keeps me going to it every time. As usual, it uses two CR123 lithium batteries. More photos here...

The KL1 LED Conversion Head isn't just your typical LED light. This has a Total Internal Reflection (TIR) lens which focuses light into a smooth, tight beam with maximum output. So, this light doesn't to well for close-up work as it doesn't flood well and has a tight hot spot. That's not to say it can't, I just know others prefer flood lighting for those type of tasks. But it does well for more of a medium to long range type lighting. More photos here...

The next photo shows what the Surefire E2E with KL1 looks like with the original Surefire E2E Executive Elite. In case you were wondering, it seems Surefire likes to change and experiment with the flashlight body over the years. I prefer the newer bodies myself. The KL1 head unit also adds some length to the light, but not that much. About another half an inch longer. More photos here...

Yes, there might be brighter and cheaper lights out there. In my experience when it comes to tools, you get for what you pay for. All in all, if you need a dependable, long lasting, built like a tank, a tool and not a toy flashlight. The Surefire E2E with KL1 LED head is for you. Heck any Surefire will do to be completely honest with you. Would I recommend this? Absolutely! In the end, you really only need one since they last forever. Sad part is, I couldn't just stop at one and ended up buying more. They're just that great!
