One of My Favorite Quotes...

“The Master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.”

Burgers @ The Beer Company, San Diego

Brought a buddy of mine along with my trusted point-n-shoot camera and Groupon voucher to try out The Beer Company in downtown San Diego right off Broadway. We went during lunch on a weekend to catch a few college basketball games and of course for some grub. We got ourselves situated and comfortable as we waited of the waitress which wasn't long. Let me tell you, one half is well lit from the available light through the windows. And the other is pretty dark. I see what they're trying to do, but I'm not a big fan of eating in the dark in dining areas. But the place in general has a lot of potential with a large bar.

Calamari Fritti - The Beer Company San Diego - Gaslamp

But let's get back to the food. For starters, we got the Calamari Fritti. Its golden brown calamari with house made cocktail sauce. It was quite good and you can actually taste the squid which were a pretty good size and cooked perfectly. No small pieces here. But I did wish that they seasoned it a bit more after the fry. And I usually prefer my calamari with some kind of tarter sauce than what they had. Other than that, I would order it again. Oh and as usual, add more calamari pieces to the dish. How can restaurants be so stingy with calamari?!? Squid is cheap!

Mushroom & Onion Burger - The Beer Company San Diego - Gaslamp

Craving for burgers lately, I got the Mushroom & Onion Burger. Its half pound, mid-west Angus beef, sautéed mushrooms, onions, Swiss cheese and steak fries on the side. The burger was ok. I asked for medium and when I got it, it was cooked more than I hoped. So it wasn't dry, but was getting there unfortunately. If it was cooked more to my likings, it would definitely better than just ok cause the sautéed mushrooms and onions were very tasty.

BBQ Hickory Burger - The Beer Company San Diego - Gaslamp

And last but not least is the BBQ Hickory Burger. This is a half pound, mid-west Angus beef, onion rings, bacon, cheddar and BBQ sauce with beer battered fries on the side. No complaints there...

The service at The Beer Company is good. It's a nice place to just chill and hang out. It's real spacious and plenty of TVs to watch the games. They have a pretty big menu that's sure to satisfy the whole group in your party. But, that can also be overwhelming for some others who can't make up their own mind. Like me. Oh well. In the end, I would definitely come back again.
